THE POWER OF HOT + COLD
Contrast therapy is the intentional practice of alternating between heat and cold exposure. The shift in temperature creates a physiological challenge for the body and has long been used as a tool for recovery and resilience.
Modern research supports its role in recovery: a systematic review found that contrast water therapy improved muscle soreness and reduced strength loss following exercise compared with passive rest.
COLDER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER.
Research on cold-water immersion found 52–59°F produced the strongest results for post-exercise muscle soreness — reinforcing that effective cold exposure doesn’t have to mean extreme cold.
Ancient practice. Modern science. Intentional recovery.
